Twin Falls Temple
MHTN was tasked to create a design that “recognizes the sacred and solemn nature of the temple, impart an appropriate spiritual setting for patrons and provide efficient operation of the facility.” Because of the importance and longevity of these structures, materials and workmanship need to be of the highest quality and consideration must be given to long term maintenance needs. One of the first steps in the design process of this project was to observe and study the architecture found in the Twin Falls area. It became quite apparent after visiting the nearby Shoshone Falls along the Snake River that this would be the inspiration for the temple design. A great sense of ruggedness, pureness, and honesty is apparent in the surrounding landscape. The Temple design was influenced by a small generator house located at the base of the falls which became the basis for the design. The edifice is simple and pure in its expression, straightforward in its massing and refined in its detailing. The intent was not to make the structure overbearing and heavy, rather to create an expression of grace and dignity.
