Forever Young Zone & Sophie’s Place
Primary Children's Medical Center
The renovation and expansion of the existing Forever Young Zone at Primary Children’s Medical Center has expanded the capabilities to provide patients and their siblings a place to play, explore and exercise their imagination during their stay at the hospital. There will be various activities available to the children including art and crafting areas, games and reading areas, dramatic/dress-up play, and medical play, as well as, specific areas for teens, infants and patients with specific sensory needs. The playroom at the Forever Young Zone is a calming yet energetic space providing opportunity for messy art work fun and soft seating to cozy up with a book and enjoy the natural light from the adjacent outdoor patio.
Sophie’s Place, Steve Young Foundation’s newest initiative, is a place for children to experience the healing power of music. Here, children at the hospital will have the opportunity to participate in group music ‘jam’ sessions with other patients or in one-on-one therapy sessions. Patients will also be able to record their music in the professional-quality in-house recording studio with an isolated recording and mixing rooms. Sophie’s Place has a venue feel to it, providing a space of warmth and interest including lighted letters, hanging instruments, large scale graphic art and complete with stage lighting, intended to provoke patient’s creativity. Located adjacent to the Forever Young Zone, and divided by a moveable wall, Sophie’s Place will also be a performance space for visiting artist and home to the hospital’s house band. Sophie’s Place with be a gather space for many children to experience music’s power to comfort and heal.
