Glacier Hills Elementary School
Nestled at the heart of the Canyons School District, Glacier Hills Elementary School stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of architectural innovation and educational foresight. This state-of-the-art facility, replacing two elementary schools, was designed to inspire and promote positive learning experiences. The school’s soaring glass windows, playful colors, and unique exterior design create a welcoming environment. Inside, students are greeted by whimsical graphics which spark imagination, bright and airy classrooms, and collaborative learning spaces.
Built for 850 students, the school embodies the spirit of next generation learning with interconnected spaces and flexible furniture designed to encourage collaboration and curiosity, as well as support the District’s Brain Booster and Youth Academy programs. Classrooms are dynamic hubs equipped with technology, enabling interactive learning experiences. Shared communal areas, both indoors and outdoors, serve as meeting points for students and parents alike, fostering a sense of unity.
A striking fusion of contemporary aesthetics and eco-friendly principles, the school will be a fixture of education for future Glacier Hill Yetis for years to come.

DESIGNING DURING COVID-19 + ADDITIONAL WING
Despite hurdles posed by remote collaboration and evolving priorities during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team persevered, leveraging digital tools and virtual platforms to ensure a seamless and iterative design process that met the evolving needs of the client. Additionally, a decision was made by the District to add a new Youth Academy wing to the building during the bidding process. The Youth Academy wing was seamlessly integrated into the overall design and turned over with minimal delay to the overall construction schedule.

Early post-occupancy evaluation has shown that the new design has greatly reduced the EUI of the school through strong envelope design, efficient mechanical systems, and District management control. Durable and maintainable materials ensure longevity and reduce the environmental impact of constant renovations. The abundant use of natural light enhances the learning environment and reduces day-to-day energy consumption.
