Sophie’s Place
Sophie’s Place is a music therapy lounge founded as a dedicated space for children to experiment and experience music’s power to soothe and comfort. Designed as a therapeutic oasis, it draws children into a place of healing and creativity, and away from the clinical setting of the hospital. Patients have the ability to record music in a professional quality in-house recording studio with isolated recording and mixing rooms. Warmth and interest are added with lighted letters, hanging instruments, stage lighting, and large graphics that include music and lyrics. A moveable wall adds the flexibility for visiting performers to entertain with small concerts and workshops.

EXPRESS THE POWER OF MUSIC IN HEALING
The design challenge for these environments was to exude the passion that Sophie had for music and its power in the healing process. Working with a small space, the design team had to make every square inch visually unique, youthful, and inviting. Creative solutions like hanging drum sticks from the ceiling helped accomplish this.
